About the author

This site was made for fun and to share fascinating art from another era. It is great to see that beauty does not have borders, neither geographical nor human. This is illustrated by the visitor map above. You can click the viewer to expand the map or select individual countries.

I am not an art expert but a Dutch internal medicine/critical care physician who likes 19th century art. As always in art, my selection is somewhat arbitrary and personal. Therefore the content on this site is not meant to be complete but rather to give an introduction. If you have comments or suggestions, please use the reply section below.

    Dear Mr. Michel,

I am Asmaa Elmongi, a curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Alexandria, Egypt. I am working on archiving the Orientalist Art in the museum.

I was searching for some information about a painting named “The Sahleb Vendor, Cairo” dated 1886 for the orientalist artist “Ludwig Deutsch”. I have found it on the website of “Wikimedia” and I found that the website of “19th century realism” is the source of the image on “Wikimedia”.

I am wondering if you have any information regarding where I can find and see the original painting at the current time, and whether it is owned by an individual or a museum.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to your reply.

    Kind regards,
    Asmaa Elmongi

      Dear Asmaa Elmongi

I am sorry but I do not have that information. Not sure why wikimedia cites my site. Succes with your search anyway.
